My career in Local Government began 1993 as a Tourist Officer with the original Kapunda Council. This position was part time and at the time I was a serious triathlete and marathon runner therefore to supplement my income and fitness, I was the "runner" on the garbage (waste management) truck on Fridays. Thanks to the Council boys, Tom and Merv you were great mates and a joy to work with!!
As a result of an amalgamation of the Freeling and Kapunda Councils I was appointed to a full time position as Tourism & Economic Development Officer a position I held for 2 years.
In early 2000 I secured a position as Tourism & Economic Development Manager with Central Darling Shire Council in Western NSW the largest Shire in that State (53k sq Klms). Within a short time I was appointed as General Manager (CEO) of the Council a position I held for seven years. Council. The principal towns in the Shire are Wilcannia, White Clffs, Ivanhoe and Menindee. The Council Administration Office was located in Wilcannia where we made our home.
During this time I was the recipient of a Gold Award under the NSW Premier's Public Sector Awards for services to rural NSW.
After returning to Kapunda, my wife Marilyn and I owned and operated the Kapunda IGA Supermarket for nearly 5 years, a vibrant and well supported business located on the corner of the Main Street and Crase Street Kapunda.
While we owned the store it received two Tidy Towns Awards for the maintenance of the gardens located on this corner.
We have also established a company, OriginEarth – Natural Produce Pty Ltd growing organic fruit and vegetables from our 5 acre property on the outskirts of Kapunda.
